Great article on how to choose a surgeon in the Dallas, Plano, Richardson, Garland area

How to choose a surgeon in the Dallas, Garland and Plano area.

1. Talk to your primary care physician since he knows the most about you and your medical history and status. In addition, he knows the Dallas and Plano areal surgeons and surgery centers and can make a recommendation to you.

2. Research the doctor. Look him up on the internet see what you can find. Some people find that seeing a picture of the surgeon, a video of him talking and a biography help you find out if you feel comfortable with him or her. Is the doctor board certified? What hospitals or surgery centers is he able to perform surgery at?(this is called credentialed) You can also look for reviews where patients have reviewed doctors that they have been patients of. Other sites will let you know if there are any actions taken by medical organizations against that doctor. D Magazine chooses doctors from peer reviews and puts out an annual "Best Doctors in Dallas" edition which contains biographies and photos of the best doctors in Dallas (and Plano too)

3. Make an appointment with the doctor first and talk to him or her, you will get a good feel on whether or not your "gut reaction" tells you that he is the right doctor or not for your surgery. Listen to your instincts. Ask him about his qualifications and also everything about the surgery, risks, procedures, etc. Bring as much of your medical records as possible so he can know about you.

This procedure also tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall and dramatically improves the appearance of a protruding abdomen. Women in particular have a hard time strengthening these muscles after changes associated with pregnancy have stretched their abdomen to the limit. Weight loss can also cause loose skin in the abdominal area, which may be resistant to toning by exercise. Tummy tucks can be performed as an outpatient procedure, but some patients may be more comfortable staying in a hospital facility overnight.

minimally invasive robotic surgery with Da Vinci

The next phase of minimally invasive surgery will be done with robotics. See the da Vinci® system surgical robot in action in this video.

Minimally invasive surgery versus Traditional Surgery

In traditional surgery, you might have very large cuts in the skin and at times the surgeon may have to do damage to other parts of the body in order to open up a large enough space to do their work with their hands. They may have to cut through the ribs, bones or muscle to make the space needed for the operation. Most of the recovery time needed, pain and bloodloss occurs not because of the operation, but of all the cuts and trauma needed to open up enough space in the body to be able to get hands and instruments in the area to perform the work.

Instead, minimally invasive surgery attempts to avoid having to open up the body so much by using special tools such as the the endoscope. A skinny tube with a minature camera and light is inserted into the body through an incision just big enough to fit the tiny endoscopic tube into. The surgeon then uses this as his eyes during the operation, viewing the camera's view on a monitor. The surgeon makes other small incisions just large enough to insert the special tools for the operation.

The incisions required for endoscopic surgeries can be less than half an inch at times.

When Plastic Surgery Calls for a Do-Over

NO face-lift stops time, so as aging continues, even a satisfied patient may choose have another one a decade later. But what if your face-lift never pleased you, not because of complications or monstrous scars, but because of aesthetics pure and simple? Perhaps your first surgeon’s technique resulted not only in a tighter jaw line, but also a flat wind-swept cheek and a stretched mouth. Or your nose no longer has an unsightly bump, but now, postsurgery, is asymmetrical.
