Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery - Dr. John Peloza

John Peloza, M.D., P.A., of The Center for Spine Care (CSC), is an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine care, with offices in Dallas and Frisco, TX. Dr. Peloza and the CSC team are on the leading edge of spine care and focus on identifying the patient's source of pain and developing a modern treatment plan to help them return to normal daily activities. Treatments may include physical therapy, medications, injections or utilizing minimally-invasive endoscopic techniques. A pioneer in minimal access spinal technology (MAST), Dr. Peloza utilizes techniques such as treating spinal fractures through two, 5-millimeter incisions, performing micro-endoscopic procedures for herniated discs and stabilizing the spine with rods and screws without destroying muscle through a traditional surgery. "Minimally invasive spine surgery minimizes damage to the ligaments, muscles, bone, joints, nerves, and blood vessels around the spine caused by traditional surgery," he says. It is through research, development and usage of this modern technology that Dr. Peloza has gained an international reputation and respect as a skilled surgeon. Dr. Peloza is a clinical investigator on numerous medical research studies related to the spine. Upcoming research studies involve posterior dynamic stabilization, the next frontier for innovative spine treatment. These techniques stabilize the spine without fusion, utilizing minimally invasive technologies. "The goal of surgery is a predictable, successful outcome with a return to normal activity. Patients who have benefited from these new techniques typically have shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and positive outcomes." Dr. Peloza was instrumental in helping to launch several of the latest minimally invasive orthopedic treatments for the spine including SEXTANT, MET-Rx, and the MAVERICK total disc replacement. Dr. Peloza has performed more minimally invasive spine fusions than any other surgeon in the country. He was a pioneer and clinical investigator of the BAK Interbody Fusion treatment method used for lower back pain. He was one of a handful of physicians participating in an FDA-approved, national multi-center rollout of INFUSE Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP), a new, state-of-the-art treatment. Dr. Peloza attended the United States Air Force Academy as an Air Force Cadet and later received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. He received his medical degree with highest honors from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has completed fellowships in knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery, and spine surgery. He is also an associate with the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado and is a spine consultant to the United States Ski Team. Dr. Peloza is active in numerous national and international medical organizations such as the International Spine Injection Society, North American Spine Society, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is an advisor to Medtronic Sofamor Danek, a member of the exclusive Lumbar Spine Study Group, and the Kostuik Research Society. Dr. Peloza is frequently featured in national and international print and broadcast media such as the "Fox News Network," "ABC News," "Good Morning America," "SAT-1 German Television," "Reader's Digest," "The New York Times," "The Wall Street Journal" and more. He has the distinction of being honored as one of the "Best Doctors in Dallas" 2003-2007 as well as "Best Doctors in America" from 2001 to 2008, the gold standard of physician quality. In addition, he has been honored & cited in the Consumers' Research Council of America as a "Top Surgeon in America." He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
